The Brain Team
Your brain is divided into different parts. These parts work together as a team. The four major parts of your brain are the: The cerebrum or cerbral cortex is the largest part of the human brain, this is where thinking, learning, seeing, hearing and action takes place. Your cerebrum or cerbral cortex is divided into two halves called "hemispheres." The word cortex means "bark", like the "bark" of a tree that is the outermost layer.
The cerebellum, or "little brain", is similar to the cerebrum in that it has two hemispheres and has a highly folded surface or cortex. The cerebellum helps with coordination of movement, posture, and balance. You can find the cerebellum toward the back of the brain, under the cerebrum.
The limbic system, often referred to as the "emotional brain", is found buried within the cerebrum. This is what let's us experience our feelings such as being happy, sad, excited, scared etc.. The limbic system in the middle of the brain surrounded by the cerebral cortex.
The brain stem is underneath the limbic system and connects to the spinal cord. The brain stem is responsible for basic life functions such as breathing, heartbeat, and blood pressure.
Let's learn more about the different brain parts and what they do for us.
